Updated April 4, 2020. “Pandemic” means prevalent over a whole country or the world. The 1900 confirmed cases originally surrounding a Chinese concentrated animal meat-packing company located in a section of China with poor air quality and high levels of small particulates has certainly spread. The spread is documented here: https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/new-coronavirus-interactive-map-1.5438155.
Because coronavirus is so contagious, we are all taking extra precautionary steps. The CDC recommends washing hands, coughing & sneezing into elbows, six feet of social distance, self-isolation after travelling or if one becomes sick, etc.
The problem is that we are social beings.
This isn’t the first time.
- Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that usually infect animals but can sometimes evolve and spread to humans.
- In 2003, a Chinese coronavirus infected 400 people. Coronaviruses mainly circulate among animals but have been known to evolve and infect humans as in the cases of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). The current coronavirus is deemed less dangerous.
- As a lower respiratory infection, symptoms tend to include fever, coughing and shortness of breath. As with any viral infection, when the immune system is battling one problem it can miss another. Thus the progression to bacterial pneumonia in some people.
In a strange turn of events, an editorial authored by Dr. Fauci (known for his involvement in the AIDS Crisis as head of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases), published on March 26th (online on February 28 in the New England Journal of Medicine titled, “Covid-19 — Navigating the Uncharted,” points out that, while at present, the currently reported case fatality rate is approximately 2%, these statistics are based on case definitions requiring a diagnosis of pneumonia, i.e., only those who are acutely ill with pneumonia are counted as COVID-19 infected, and not the potentially vast pool of individuals who are asymptomatic carriers or are only suffering from mild symptoms. His paper elaborates further on this point:
“If one assumes that the number of asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic cases is several times as high as the number of reported cases, the case fatality rate may be considerably less than 1%.” [bold added]
In fact. Dr. Fauci suggests the case fatality rate might be as low as 0.1%.
“This suggests that the overall clinical consequences of Covid-19 may ultimately be more akin to those of a severe seasonal influenza (which has a case fatality rate of approximately 0.1%) or a pandemic influenza (similar to those in 1957 and 1968) rather than a disease similar to SARS or MERS, which have had case fatality rates of 9 to 10% and 36%, respectively.” [bold added]
Dr. Fauci’s paper rightly points out the likelihood that there is a massive submerged iceberg of asymptomatic or mild cases of COVID-19 that have gone completely unacknowledged and untested, and that therefore the death toll from COVID-19 is more akin to seasonal influenza at 0.1%.
It turns out that seasonal flu has far more deaths attributed to it (23,000) than COVID-19 (2,449 as of 3/31/20 according to the CDC).
All that said: Don’t get sick; balance your immune system.
Anything and everything you can do to give your body a robust and balanced immune response means you won’t get sick by any cause.
- Coronavirus
- Whatever other flu virus
- The “common cold” bacteria
- yeast overgrowths…
- Parasites…
Think about it:
If this is the typical lunch (and it is according to well-researched statistics) http://www.us.ayushveda.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/New-American-Diet.jpg
Is cheap food helping?
On top of cheap and non-nourishing food, we can stop by box stores and get a free flu shot (which doesn’t address coronavirus—or most other flu strains either). Here’s what our CDC published about the lack of effectivness: http://synergynutrition.info/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/Flu-Presentation-Sheedy_2008.pdf Some parents have lobbied their states to insist that healthy children get flu vaccines to protect their own children (who eat like the above) from becoming sick. If that’s how parents allow their children to eat, their children will become sick in any case and no vaccine in the world will help. Sorry.
Who benefits? Drug companies, convenience and commercial food companies, concentrated animal feeding operations, big agriculture who grow corn, wheat, soy, and etc.
Those of us with familial history of autoimmune disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, nervous system problems, and other health situations should not be repeatedly vaccinated because doing so exacerbates these problems.
What can we do?
Balance your immune system.
Use this handout to select foods high in Vitamin C, Maximize your antioxidant capacity, Vitamin D (in Alaska we can’t make D but for a few weeks during June solstice—and only if we are outside during mid-day sun and without sunscreen or jackets). Get plenty of magnesium, calcium, folate (the word is derived from foliage), zinc and selenium.
